Joseph A. Roberts, Jr.

Joseph A. Roberts Jr. went to be with his Lord and Savior on August 18, 2015.

Joe was a true native born in Bradenton, Fl. on September 21, 1922.  During his younger years as a teenager he loved to fish up and down Wares Creek. He also worked for local cattle dairy, herding cows from one field to another on 26th. St. W. near what is now Cortez road.

After graduating from Bradenton High School he served in the U.S. Navy beginning In October of 1941 as an Aviation Machinist’s Mate on the USS Norton Sound. He served in Saipan and Guam during the battle of Midway in the Pacific. He was later promoted to Plane Captain in 1944 with the Atlantic Fleet and served in San Juan, Puerto Rico and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba.

Joe returned to Bradenton in October 1945 to serve with Florida Power & Light and then went to work with the Postal Service for 30 years from which he retired.

Joe was very active with the boys club for over 15 years. He also served as tennis club president for many years.

Joe was always involved in the ministry of his local church along with his wife Jean.

Joe was preceded in his passing by his wife Jean who went to be with her Lord and Savior on June 23, 2015.

Joe is survived by his daughter Donna Roberts of Venice, Fl.; sons Larry Roberts Of Tampa, Fl; and Garry Lee Roberts and wife Pam of Palmetto, Fl. step-daughter Beverly Able and husband Dan of Bradenton; step-son William Smith and wife Judy of Bradenton.

Joe was always happy to be involved with Jean’s five grandchildren and 15 great grandchildren. Thanks for the memories Grandpa Joe.

A service to celebrate Joe’s love for Christ will be held on Saturday August 22 at Shannon Town Chapel 1015 14th. St.West. Bradenton. Visitation will be at 9:30 A.M. followed by the service at 10:00 A.M. Interment will follow at Fogartyville Cemetery in Bradenton with final military honors by the U.S. Navy.
