Mary Hittner passed away peacefully Wednesday morning of January 10, 2024.
She was born in St. Louis, Missouri to Richard and Loretto McMichael in 1939. She moved to Kansas City, Missouri when she was nine years old. She attended St. Francis Xavier School, St. Teresa’s Academy, and the College of St. Teresa (now known as Avila University) all located in Kansas City, Missouri. She married Paul Hittner in 1964 and spent most of their married years raising seven children in Davenport, Iowa. Mary was a nurse and administrator at a nursing home for several years as well as a highly requested R.N. in the operating room for over twenty years in Davenport, Iowa. She lived in the Quad-Cities for 46 years.
Paul Hittner died in 2013 and she remarried in 2016 to Alpha Anderson. She was a winter Texan for 18 years and became a permanent resident of McAllen, Texas in 2018. In the spring of 2021, Mary moved into an assisted living apartment in Sarasota, Florida. She enjoyed theater, travel, and shopping.
She is predeceased by her parents, her first husband, her brother Richard John McMichael III, her brother-in-law Roger Langenheim, and his son Mark.
She is survived by her seven children Nick (Jill) of Urbandale, IA, Frances Pugh (John) of Bradenton, FL, Claire Shafer of Solon, IA, Gwen Huke (Tony) of Lee’s Summit, MO, Steven of Kansas City, MO, Laura Utley (Keith) of Kansas City, MO, and Chris also of Kansas City, MO, sister Susan Langenheim of Spring, TX, and fifteen loving grandchildren.
She will be buried in Kansas City, MO next to her husband of 49 years, Paul Hittner. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the OLV Foundation at https://www.olvjfk.com/.
