Alma Jean Akin

Alma Jean Akin, age 78, of Bradenton, FL, went home to be with the Lord on February 17, 2026, while holding her son’s hand at the Bradenton Tidewell Hospice House. A devoted follower of Christ, a loving mother, and a faithful friend, she lived her life with grace, compassion, and unwavering faith.

Born on July 7, 1947, in Glasgow Kentucky to the late Woodrow and Catherine Thomerson Forbis. Alma grew into a woman whose kindness touched everyone she met. She believed deeply in the power of prayer, the strength of family, and the hope found in Jesus.

Alma was a faithful member of West Bradenton Baptist Church, where she joyfully served as a Sunday School teacher for many years. Her gentle spirit and steady devotion made her a blessing to all who knew her.

Above all, Alma cherished her family. She is survived by her son, Burch, and daughter-in-law, Donna, of Palmetto, FL; her niece, Debbie Casteel, and husband, Danny; two nephews, David and Christopher Pitcock and was preceded in death by her sister and brother in-law Betty and Gordon Pitcock, all of Glasgow, Kentucky, where Alma was born and raised.

Her legacy lives on in the lives she shaped, the faith she modeled, and the love she gave so freely. Though she will be deeply missed, her family takes comfort in knowing she is now at peace in the presence of her Savior.

A service celebrating her life will be held Saturday, February 28th at West Bradenton Baptist Church at 11:00 a.m., with visitation beginning at 10:30 a.m. Burial will be in Mount Washington, Ky.
