Dr Clair E Butler, longtime Bradenton veterinarian passed away on September 3, 2025 at age 93. Family members are confident that Edie, his high school sweetheart and wife of 67 years was waiting for him at the gates of heaven. He missed her terribly and we are happy they are together again.
Doc began his veterinary practice in Bradenton in 1958. He was an active Rotarian for decades, and served and taught at First Baptist Church for many years. Doc was quick to share - a joke, an orange, a tomato, a flashlight or a bit of sage advice. One rarely saw Doc without coming away with a treasure. Children and grandchildren all share stories of adventures with Papa. Some stories are more harrowing than others, but all are memorable.
Doc is survived by his children Sherry Mattos (Bob), Connie Novak, Laurie Sheridan (Francis), Jay Butler (April), and a crowd of grandchildren and great grandchildren. The extended Butler family was and will continue to be the loudest table in any restaurant!
The family appreciates the extra care dad received from Alleen (Home Helpers), Leah (Tidewell Hospice), Vonda and her little dog Troy, (who will be missing his smuggled sausages) and the entire staff at Waters Edge.
