Finley Charles Johnson, age 78, of Parrish, FL, passed away Sunday, April 20, 2025, at home with his wife by his side.

Finley was born to Charles David Johnson and Muriel Elwanda Beaty Johnson on December 17, 1946, in Fort Payne, Alabama. He graduated from Thomas County High School in Thomasville, GA in 1964. His family relocated to Mansfield, Pennsylvania. In 1967 he joined the US Navy and served on the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt Aircraft Carrier during Vietnam War. He was discharged on December 20, 1971 and received a Bachelor of Arts degree from Mansfield State College, in Mansfield, PA in 1972. Finley graduated from the University of South Florida with a master’s degree in public administration in 1979. He began his career with the US Dept of Veteran’s affairs in 1972. He was a service hearing officer and retired as a senior service hearing office in 1995. After his retirement, he and Susan moved to Parrish, FL. He was raised in the Primitive Baptist Church and he and his wife attended the First Baptist Church of Parrish. His hobby was restoring old Ford Mustangs and attending car shows around Florida. They would decorate their property each year at Christmas for the neighbors to enjoy. 

He was preceded in death by his parents and a brother, Felix Parks Johnson (Bessie).

He is survived by his wife of 37 years - Susan Kennedy Johnson of Parrish, Florida; Daughter - Honor Leigh Johnson of West Virginia; Grandchildren - Skye Virginia McCain and Barrett McCain, both of West Virginia; Brothers - Kevin Lowell Johnson (Jackie) of Hawkinsville, GA and Eric Culloekee Johnson (Gail) of Pocomoke City, Maryland; Sisters – Connie, Gail and Diane Johnson; Several Sisters-in-law, Brothers-in-laws, Cousins and Friends.

No local services will be held. A Graveside services will be held at 11:00AM on Saturday, April 26, 2025, at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Rhine, GA.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity or church of the donor’s choice.
