Born October 2nd, 1929 in Los Angeles, California; died May 12th, 2025 Bradenton Florida:
He was raised by his family in Ohio, Florida and England. He earned his general certificate from Wolverhampton Polytechnic Institute; his bachelor's degree in sociology from Cornell, his Masters in Divinity from Drew, and his Masters in education from the University of Rochester.
His sense of vocation and calling into Christian service began to be awakened as he toured Europe immediately after World War II, believing that to follow the Lord Jesus was the way to overcome the devastation of the war, and becoming a missionary advancing the cause of the Kingdom of God in the world.
As he pursued his calling, he experienced many adventures from the migrant camps in the States during the early to mid and fifties, through conflict in Ubangui in the mid sixties and house arrest in Kantanga in the mid seventies, to preaching missions in Cuba in retirement.
He was ordained an elder in the Methodist Church in 1955, serving several appointments in Central and Western New York. As a United Methodist missionary in Congo, and as an active member of the missions team of Trinity United Methodist Church in Bradenton.
His first wife Elizabeth Sadd Anderson preceded him October 11th, 2002. He has survived by two sons. Robert (Patti) and David (Holly) grandchildren, Naomi Jean Anderson Haines, Bethany Rae Anderson Johns, Colin Wesley Anderson, Lorin Graham Anderson and four living great-grandchildren: Hannah Haines, Olivia Haines, Kai Johns, Atlas Johns and one deceased great-grandson Roman Johns. His second wife, Betty Thomas Anderson, preceded him May 8th 2023. He is survived by stepson, Michael Thomas (Christiane), two step-granddaughters Meris and Melissa and his stepdaughter Karen Thomas.
Memorial Services are scheduled on Saturday, June 14th at 2:00pm at Westminster/Point Pleasant, 1533 4th Ave W. and on Monday, June, 16th at 10:00am at Trinity United Methodist Church, 3200 Manatee Ave W. in Bradenton Fl.
