Gwen Yvonna (Grimes) Washington

Gwen Yvonna Washington, beloved mother, passed away on February 4, 2026 at the age of 68. She was surrounded by love and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Born on February 22, 1957 in Baltimore, Maryland. Gwen lived a life of kindness, strength, devotion to family and faith. She had a special way of making those around her feel welcome and loved, those moments will be cherished forever.

Gwen was a devoted mother to Philip R. Hattaway and John S. Hattaway and her love extended to their significant others, her sisters, brother, nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchild. She found joy in being around family and friends.

She is survived by her sister Linda Bellemare, sister Marilyn Hardenbrook (Lee Hardenbrook), brother Guy Grimes Jr. (Jennifer Grimes), son Philip Hattaway (Stephanie Souza) and son John Hattaway (Melissa Hattaway), nieces, nephews, grandchildren and great grandchild. She was preceded in death by her father Guy Grimes Sr., mother Jeannett (Lowe) Grimes, and husband Joseph Washington.

A Celebration of Life will be held on March 21, 2026 at Forward Community Church of God (209 7th St. W., Palmetto, FL. 34221) from 12:30pm-3:30pm.

Though she is no longer with us Gwen’s love, lessons, and spirit will live on in the hearts of all who loved her.
