John Allen Cook, born on August 8, 1954, passed away peacefully on January 10, 2026. A devoted husband and father, John leaves behind a legacy of love, hard work, and resilience.
John dedicated over 30 years of his professional life to General Motors on 36th Street in Grand Rapids, Michigan, where he worked as a Millwright. He was a proud graduate of Newaygo High School, class of 1972. His commitment to his work was matched by his love for family and friends, embodying the values that he cherished throughout his life.
John was preceded in death by his loving parents, John Lee Cook and Doris Cook.
John’s passion for traveling and enjoyment of life were evident in all he did. He found joy in joking with loved ones and working hard to provide for his family. His greatest pleasure came from spending time with the love of his life , Mary Jane Cook, with whom he shared over 51 wonderful years of marriage. Together, they created a loving home for their three children: Allen John Cook (Julie), Timothy Leo Cook (Amanda), and Paul Michael Cook (Donna).
He was also a proud grandfather to Emily Cook, Easten Cook, Allen Michael Cook, and Leia Cook, who brought him immense joy. He is survived by his siblings: Siblings Nan(Bob) Stariha, Barb Cook, Mike (Julie) Cook, Sister in law and brother in laws, Lee Ann (Chris) Hesse and Leo Westbrook, exchange daughter Arantxa, along with many nieces and nephews.
John faced life's challenges with unwavering courage, including a brave five-year battle with cancer. His strength during this time was a testament to his character and love for life.
John Cook will be deeply missed by all who knew him; however, his spirit and the memories he created will live on in the hearts of his family and friends.
