On July 8, 2025, Kathleen Anderson left this earth following a relatively short, but insurmountable battle with ovarian cancer.
Born in Albany, New York, Kathleen spent most of her adult life on Oʻahu, Hawaiʻi where she embraced island living, its beaches, mountains, and community. A single mother, Kathleen raised her only daughter in Kailua but recently moved to Bradenton, Florida to be close to her daughter and grandchildren.
Courageous, witty, adventurous, and deeply caring, Kathleen opened her home to foster youth, served as a guardian ad litem, and later doted on her two young grandchildren, her greatest joy! Fiercely independent, she marched to the beat of her own drum, living life with an open heart, sense of curiosity, and generous spirit.
An avid reader, Kathleen loved words, whether writing them or reading voraciously. In addition to novels, she enjoyed poetry, could recite The Canterbury Tales in Old English, and was fluent in shorthand. When not working, she could be found at the library or curled up with a book at the beach.
She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Miriam, and is survived by her daughter, son-in-law, two grandchildren, sister, two nieces, grandnephew, grandniece, and hanai daughters. A hui hou!
