June 17, 1936 — June 24, 2025

Bradenton

It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Mary Jill Olson, who left us on June 24, 2025 in Bradenton, Florida, at the age of 89. Born on June 17, 1936, in Akron, Ohio, Jill was a vibrant and dedicated individual whose impact on her family, friends, and community will never be forgotten.

Jill was the beloved daughter of Frank and Virginia Smalley, who instilled in her the values of hard work, compassion, and the pursuit of knowledge. She was preceded in death by her loving parents, as well as her brothers Clay and Rick Smalley. She is also mourned by the loss of her cherished daughter, Beth Olson, and her grandson, Nephi Olson, whose memories will forever remain in the hearts of her family.

Jill's legacy lives on through her two sons, John (Laura) Olson, Charlie (Ray) Olson, and her daughter Patty Parker. She was a proud grandmother to Heidi (Mo) Olson, Lindsey (Todd) Wuest, Eli (Julie) Olson, Zach Olson, Chuckie Parker, Joel Parker, and Heather (Wayne) Hartmann. Her love extended even further to her great-grandchildren, Toby Olson, Vivien Olson, Gavin Hartmann, Owen Hartmann, and Ophelia Wuest, who brought immense joy to her life.

A lifelong learner, Jill received her Bachelor's Degree in Business from the University of Missouri-Kansas City (UMKC), followed by an MBA and a Masters in Special Education from the same institution. Her professional career included maintaining records and providing tax services for a small group of clients, where she was known for her integrity and dedication.

Jill was not only a committed professional but also an active member of her community. She volunteered as a docent at the Desert Museum in Tucson, Arizona, where she shared her love of science and nature with visitors. Additionally, she devoted countless hours as a tutor at the local elementary school, helping to shape the minds of future generations.

In her personal life, Jill had a wide array of interests. She had a passion for all things science, which fueled her curiosity and love for learning. Jill also enjoyed knitting, solving sudoku puzzles, listening to Big Band music, and engaging in lively debates on various topics.

Jill is survived by her sister, Linda Rings, who will carry forward the memories of their shared experiences and sisterly bond.

As we remember Mary Jill Olson, let us celebrate her remarkable life—a life characterized by love, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to family and community. A private service will be held to honor her memory, and the family invites those who knew and loved Jill to remember her in their own special way.

Her light will forever shine in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Rest in peace, Jill; you will be dearly missed.
