William R. Power

May 6, 1949 — August 30, 2025

BRADENTON

William R. Power, affectionately known as "Bill," passed away peacefully on August 30, 2025, in Sarasota, Florida. Born on May 6, 1949, in Lynn, Massachusetts, Bill dedicated much of his life to the celebration and preservation of history, leaving an indelible mark on the community he dearly loved.

A passionate Historical Preservationist, Bill’s career spanned numerous projects, boards and commissions, most notably The Peabody Historical Society & Museum and The Peabody Historical Commission, all aimed at preserving the essence of Peabody, Massachusetts.

He was proudest of his role in the Peabody City Hall project, where he expertly organized a team to replace the roof with historically accurate materials, creating a lasting tribute to the city's architectural heritage. It was his crowning glory!

Bill was also an accomplished author, having penned two books, "Peabody in Vintage Postcards" (2002) and "Peabody Then & Now" (2007), as well as editing and republishing a significant work, "History of Peabody Massachusetts" by Theodore Moody Osborne in 2008. His extensive knowledge and love for history were evident in his every endeavor.

Outside of his professional life, Bill was a man of boundless passion and warmth. He loved, loved, loved his children more than anything else in this world, and his family was the center of his universe. Bill was a devoted husband to Lucy Frey Power, his bright and beautiful daughter, Nicole, brought him immense joy, as did his brilliant son, Jonathan.

Bill's interests knew no bounds; he thrived in the arts and reveled in music ranging from the classics to the operatic. His garden was a serene haven filled with flowers, particularly his beloved rose bushes. Bill possessed a keen appreciation for antiquities and history. He enjoyed losing himself in books that explored the past. His curiosity extended to the quirks of knowledge, often turning to his eclectic collection of almanacs for unique factoids. An enthusiast for architecture, especially historical buildings, Bill had a deep admiration for the beauty around him. He also admired classic cars, particularly his prized 1962 Studebaker Gran Turismo Hawk.

In the later years of his life, as he faced illness, Bill's priorities shifted to what truly mattered most: his loving family, cherished friends, and the comforting familiarity of his home, (and maybe his Red Tesla). He found joy in the companionship of the families' little pups, EmmyLu and Bella , who filled his days with warmth and affection.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife, Lucy Frey Power; his beloved daughter, Nicole Power and his dear sister, Jean (Dan St Cyr) of New York

Bill is also survived by in-laws George and Diane Frey of Puyallup, WA. Mark and Joan Frey of Eagan, MN. Paul and Patricia Frey of Naples, FL. Many nieces and nephews who loved him, as well as countless great nieces /nephews and cousins across the country from both the Power and Frey sides, all of whom held him close to their hearts.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Eleanor (Haley) Power 1922-1985; his father, Ralph A. Power 1920-2005; his sister, Mary E. Power (formerly Michalski) 1947-2013; Mary's daughter, Regina McLuskey 1968-2002; and his beloved son, Jonathan A. Power 1979-2014.

As we bid farewell to William R. Power, we deeply respect the legacy he has left behind—a legacy filled with love, commitment to history, passion for arts and music, and most importantly, a heart that cherished his family above all else. His spirit will continue to live on in the memories shared by those who were privileged to have known him.
